Francis Tuttle Student Receives Scholarship

By Jeff Knapp

July 10, 2006

Francis Tuttle Practical Nursing student Tawanna Lawrence is recipient of one of the first Oklahoma CareerTech Foundation Minority Scholarships. Lawrence will be presented a $1,000 scholarship at the annual CareerTech Summer Conference at the Tulsa Convention Center in August.

The purpose of the scholarship is to recruit qualified individuals to pursue an educational plan in a college or university, according to Tom Friedemann, president of the Oklahoma CareerTech Foundation.

"This is an exciting opportunity for CareerTech students who have demonstrated a passion for our mission and a willingness to enroll in a college major that will lead to a teaching profession in one of our occupational areas," Friedemann said.

Lawrence will be attending Redlands Community College in the Fall, and hopes to become a future CareerTech instructor.
