Terminology and Techniques
This is a comprehensive discussion of body planes and body position terminology. Support classifications as well as an overview of lever arm principles as applied to orthotics are then discussed. Finally an explanation of the importance of pressure management and the avoidance of pressure points while applying supportive pressure is taught.
Spinal I Softgoods
This introduction to spinal supports includes spinal anatomy, physiology and pathology related to softgoods supports. Tools required for this level of supports are also reviewed. Product categories and fitting techniques are also taught.
Spinal II Posterior Panel
This program builds on the earlier softgoods anatomy program to discuss more advanced anatomy and pathology subjects as they relate to supports with steels or rigid posterior panels. Special emphasis is placed on the spinal discs and their contribution to back pain. Tools and fitting techniques for this level of spinal devices are presented and demonstrated.

Tuesday, April 1
Orthopedic Structures
This course offers an introduction into the make-up and function of bones, ligaments, tendons and muscles. Articulating surfaces are also discussed relative to their response to use, abuse and/or immobilization. A discussion of proprioception is also included in this program.
Spinal III Orthotics
Anatomy, pathology and physiology topics building on previous spinal courses and related to rigid orthotics are covered in this course. Selection and application of common spinal orthoses are then covered along with use of appropriate tools and techniques.

Wednesday, April 2
Facilities Management
Clinical documentation, HIPAA, billing errors, fitting room equipment, courtesy and ethics, patient education, Physician and allied health communication, ethics, universal precautions, CMS regulatory update, and facility accreditation are all discussed in this course.
Lower Extremity Supports
Softgoods supports as they relate to anatomy, pathology and physiology of the knee and ankle are presented. Product classification, selection and application of supports are also presented and demonstrated.
Lower Extremity Orthotics
This course builds on the previous course to cover anatomy, pathology and physiology of the lower extremities relative to orthotic management. Selection and application techniques are also covered as they relate to hip, knee and ankle and foot orthoses.
Gait Overview
This introductory course to gait covers current terminology and biomechanics of gait relative to criteria for selection of appropriate orthotic devices within the scope of practice to manage gait deficits.

Upper Extremity
Anatomy, pathology and physiology of the shoulder, elbow and wrist are covered along with product selection and application techniques for various common indications.
Cervical
This course deals with the anatomy, pathology and physiology of the cervical spine. It includes selection and application of both soft and rigid cervical support devices.
Fitting Lab
Semi-Rigid and Rigid cervical orthotic devices
Pressure Care
The anatomy of the skin and the vascular and skeletal systems are presented relative to seating. The principles of pressure distribution and management of shearing to prevent skin breakdown are taught. Pressure ulcers, mapping, treatment and marketing of pressure relief products are also covered.
Modalities
The concepts of pain secondary to trauma or surgery are discussed along with cold therapy modalities used to help manage pain.
Venous Insufficiency/Lymphedema
The anatomy and physiology of the venous and lymphatic systems are taught along with pathologies requiring conservative treatment. Fitting principles of medical stockings are discussed as well as treatment options and procedures for pneumatic pump management.

Diabetic Foot - Course number #66494. Enroll
This course provides a comprehensive overview of diabetes and its effect on the lower limb. Anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology subjects are discussed relating to direct patient care. Therapeutic shoe selection paradigms and fitting protocols are discussed and demonstrated at length. Clinical documentation is also presented with the focus on loss prevention.

Mastectomy for Fitters - Couse Number #66495. Enroll
Fitting a woman with breast prosthesis after breast surgery involves more than just taking measure-ments. Taught by a breast cancer survivor, the Trulife Breastcare Fitter Training Class emphasizes the importance of a correct fitting and creating a comfortable atmosphere for your client. The course content includes: history of postmastectomy products, basic breast anatomy, breast cancer statistics and surgery types. The last portion of the class is a hands-on fitting lab.
Fitting Lab*
You will fit bras and prostheses on a breast cancer survivor and / or mannequin.
*Male students will only be allowed to attend the mastectomy lectures, not the fitting lab section of the course.
